How do I activate MyID account?

Once you are registered for classes and are on campus, you will need to activate your MyID account. Go to https://myid.wvu.edu/directions/activate/.

If you are currently enrolled in the Fall of 2011, this system became available at the beginning of October 2011, so for many it will be used for the first time when you need to change your MIX password. You will no longer do this in STAR; instead, go to the new MyID site. This will synchronize most of your passwords for WVU systems.

Account activation is required for all users new to the WVU MyID system. This process synchronizes passwords for your accounts on systems that utilize WVU MyID for authentication. Completing this process will not change the contents of any of your existing WVU accounts. Follow all of the steps.

Is it okay to reuse my password for other non-WVU systems like Facebook?

Do not use your WVU username/password combination on your private online accounts. Many web-based systems have weak security and are often the target of hackers seeking personal information. Social networking sites are particularly easy targets for these attacks. Reusing your WVU credentials on private accounts, such as Facebook, creates a real risk of exposing your WVU login information to hackers, and thus exposing WVU data to unauthorized access.
