MIX Tips

Issue: IE 8
Internet Explorer 8 is not certified for this version of MIX. The MIX software was created before it could be tested against this browser. Both vendors are working towards patches. In the meantime, please download the browser called Firefox at http://getfirefox.com.

Issue: Authentication box appears
Try adding “http://mix.wvu.edu”: as a trusted site. Some people have firewalls that will prematurely cause the authentication box to appear. Also, clear your cache if you had the old MIX addresses http://blue.wvu.edu or http://gold.wvu.edu previously in your cache because these are not valid URLs anymore after the new servers were added.

Issue: Loading time for e-mail
The loading time will vary depending on your connectivity which means the load time will vary depending on what type of speed you have with dial-up, DSL TI, T3, cable, or wireless. Testing is showing that the more frequently the mail is loaded onto a computer and caches, the subsequent loading time improves. Also, other factors include the high volume of users which can affect the speed. Users have peaked over 6,000 during peak usage times which include the early afternoon and early evening times. At this time logging is turned on to try to troubleshoot some problems so it is slowing loading time so that we might begin to fine-tune more features to improve the loading time.

Issue: Deleting more than one e-mail at a time
Hold down the shift key with your left hand and left click on your mouse at the same time. You can then right click and delete literally hundreds of e-mails at a time if you care to or you can hold down the control key and skip over e-mails then left click and then right click and click on the delete option to rid yourself of several e-mails that are scattered throughout your inbox. This is exactly the same way that GroupWise works. Learning key strokes can really save you much time and this works on many other types of programs.
