Why is my PIN (password) expiring?
All student and faculty PINS are expiring as part of WVU’s continuing effort to protect student information. If you are a registered student for a current or future term or faculty, you will change your password at MyID beginning in October of 2011.
When does my PIN (password) expire?
Your PIN will expire upon your first login to STAR if you are a newly admitted student. You will change your PIN in STAR every 90 days before you arrive as a current student at WVU. You will then change your PIN at MyID. This password will also expire every 90 days.
What are the requirements for creating/changing my PIN (password)?
When you create your new PIN in STAR for the first time, it must be at least 6 characters long and contain only the following special characters %+/!^?:.{}[]!-_, The PIN is case sensitive After you are a current student, there are different password requirements that are explained at MyID.
After I changed my PIN (password) I was prompted to enter a Security Question and Answer. What should I enter?
You may enter whatever you would like. Make sure you enter something you can remember and keep this in a secure location.
Some suggested questions for the Security Question are the following:
- What was my first car?
- What was my high school mascot?
- What is my mother’s middle name?
- What is my father’s middle name?
- What is my favorite vacation spot?
- What is my favorite movie?

- Who is my favorite teacher?
When entering your answer please keep in mind that this answer is case sensitive.
Why do I have to enter a Security Question and Answer?
The Security Question and Answer are required in order to reset your PIN (password) in case you forget your PIN so you can successfully access STAR if you are an admitted student who has NOT registered for classes or a previous student who is NOT currently registered for classes.
